Select Committee on Defence First Report

Recruitment and Restrictions

21. Sponsored Reservists will be required to enlist in an unit nominated by the MoD and will not be able to volunteer for duties such as high readiness reserve or, without prior consent from his employer, full time reserve service.[75] The MoD argue that this is to ensure that employers are able to honour their contractual obligations to the MoD, and that the MoD receive the support functions they require.[76] The age limits for Sponsored Reserves will be 17 years (18 for a commissioned officer) to 55 years[77] and the maximum period of notice for release from the Sponsored Reserves is 3 months.[78]
