Select Committee on Defence First Report

Payment

23. Sponsored Reserves who are called-up will continue to be paid by their employer, rather than receive payment direct from the MoD for the duration of the call out period. The MoD have been advised that this is to safeguard continued civilian employment and associated benefits such as seniority and pension rights.[81] However, as the MoD explain, the legal basis for the award of fines and stoppages against Service personnel assumes that they are in receipt of Service pay. Therefore changes have had to be made to the Territorial Army Regulations to allow for the collection of fines.[82] As with the Territorial Army, Sponsored Reserves will also be eligible for training bounty.[83]
