Select Committee on Environmental Audit Seventh Report

Institutional arrangements

62. The supply and the demand- side of energy policy are divided across government in line with the recommendation of the former Energy Committee. The Department for the Environment, Transport and the Regions is responsible for energy efficiency, including the promotion of CHP, and the Department of Trade and Industry is responsible for energy supply, including renewable energy sources. The DTI has a Minister for Energy while in the DETR energy efficiency is regarded as integral to the Environment Minister's brief and that of a supporting junior Minister. Other departments have interests as the Figure overleaf demonstrates.
