Letter to the Clerk of the Committee from
Railtrack (RES 7)
REGIONAL EUROSTAR SERVICES
I am replying to the Clerk's letter to Simon
Miller of 30 July, which asked:
"what infrastructure improvements still
need to be made before Eurostars are able to operate on the West
Coast Main Line, what progress is being made with these works
and when [will] Eurostars be safety approved for service beyond
London"?
Physical works commenced in April 1995, with
initial route clearanceone route onlybeing completed
in April 1996. Final clearanceall lines, including diversionary
routeswas completed in March 1997. As the route sections
were cleared, completion certificates were submitted to HM Railways
Inspectorate (HMRI) for approval. Final route section acceptance
was received from HMRI in September 1997.
The regional Eurostar trains are still being
processed through the rolling stock acceptance processes, but
present progress suggests that this will be completed early in
January 1999.
