GIBRALTAR
The Foreign Office has issued the following
statement:
We agreed with the Spanish authorities in October
the basis of a return to the situation that prevailed in waters
round Gibraltar from 1991-97, and we have worked since then to
achieve this.
It is very welcome that the Chief Minister in
Gibraltar has met representatives of the local Spanish fishermen
and has now been able to establish with them a basis on which
co-operation and respect should replace confrontation on the water.
This has the strong support of the British Government and of the
Governor in Gibraltar.
