Select Committee on Northern Ireland Affairs Minutes of Evidence

APPENDIX 7

Memorandum submitted by Southern Electric plc

SUPPLY INTERRUPTIONS—BOXING DAY ONWARD STORMS 1998

I am writing in response to your letter dated 8 March and am pleased to provide below the information requested.

The number of customers who lost supply as a result of the above mentioned storms was 9,476. This represents approximately 0.35 per cent of the customer base of Southern Electric.

Of these customers, 80.7 per cent had their supplies restored within three hours, a further 19 per cent were restored between three and 12 hours and the remaining 0.3 per cent were restored within 24 hours.

As no customers remained off supply for over 24 hours we did not fail under our Guaranteed Standards of Performance and consequently no payments have, or will be, made to customers.
