The Comptroller and Auditor General's report on the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils Accounts 1997-98 (HC 155) was considered.

Sir Michael Scholar, KCB, Permanent Secretary, and Mr Tony Quigley, Director, Science and Engineering Base Office of Science and Technology, the Department of Trade and Industry; and Dr Albert Westwood, Chief Executive, and Mr Richard Lawrence-Wilson, Director of Finance and Administration, the Council for the Central Laboratory of the Research Councils, were examined (HC 332-i).

    Ordered, That the draft Report be read a second time, paragraph by paragraph.

    Paragraph 6 postponed.

    Paragraphs 7 to 29 read and agreed to.

    Postponed paragraph 6 read and agreed to.

    Resolved, That the Report be the Twenty-first Report of the Committee to the House.

    Ordered, That the Chairman do make the Report to the House.

    Ordered, That the provisions of Standing Order No. 134 (Select Committees (Reports)) be applied to the Report.
