Notes:
1 Children for IS purposes are defined as under 16 years of age. A person therefore who only has dependants aged 16 or over who are in full-time education will therefore be included in the "without children" categories for both the IS and FC tables.
1. Income Support and Family Credit figures are based on a sample size of 5 per cent.
2. Household figures are based on multi-purpose grossing factors which control for a number of demographic variables.
3. Categories are mutually exclusive, a pensioner benefit unit is defined as where the head or spouse (if there is one) is aged 60 or over (regardless of whether there are any children). This definition is different to that used in the FRS report.
4. Figures predate the introduction of JSA in October 1996 and therefore include unemployed IS claimants.
