Select Committee on Social Security Second Report

5. AIMS OF THE PILOT

Why a pilot study has been mounted

5.1  A pilot review of FAMC was mounted to test the methodology prior to decisions being taken on a full scale review.

5.2  The main aims of the pilot were to:

  • establish whether the approach adopted would achieve the objectives of the main review,
  • gauge the degree of sensitivity associated with the exercise, in particular the reaction of customers and customers' representatives,
  • identify problems and suggest solutions,
  • provide information on costs and timings necessary to plan a main review, and
  • inform the sample size for the main review.

5.3  The outcome of the pilot would determine the way forward for the main review.
