Select Committee on Standards and Privileges Fifth Report

Letter to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards from Mr Geoffrey Robinson MP

I refer to your letter to me of 8 March 1999 and enclose for your information:—

1.  Settlement Deed dated 12 April 1989;[2]

2.  Deed of Appointment of New Trustees dated 12 June 1993;[3] and

3.  Deed of Appointment and Retirement dated 7 August 1997.[4]

As you will note from the enclosed documents the shares in JCT Property Company were trust property held by me only as a trustee of a family settlement established by my brother (Peter Robinson) for the exclusive benefit of three specified children (or any eventual dependants of theirs) of our father by a second marriage. Neither I nor my children or any of my dependants or any other persons connected with me has ever had any beneficial interests in the settlement or in the shares held by the settlement.

As neither I nor any of my dependants have ever held any beneficial interest and as I was not remunerated as a trustee there was no requirement under the rules for my (trustee) interest in the shares to be registered.
