ANNEX B
Letter from Mr Ernie Ross MP to the Chairman
of the [Foreign Affairs] Committee,
23 February 1999
I am writing to tender my resignation from the Committee
with immediate effect. You will know, as will other members of
the Committee, of my concerns about the approach taken by the
Committee during the Sierra Leone inquiry. Those concerns led
me to breach the confidence of the Committee in sending a draft
copy of the Sierra Leone report to the Foreign Secretary in January.
I now accept that, notwithstanding my genuine concerns,
I was wrong to do this and consequently it is right for me to
resign from the Committee.
I apologise to you and to the other members of the
Committee with whom, despite our occasional differences, I have
enjoyed serving alongside.
