ANNEX M
Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards:
Record of Previous Interest
When the House of Commons appointed me to the post
of Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards on 17 November 1998
I had agreed that I would resign my non-executive posts before
taking it up on 15 February 1999. This was reported in the press.
I resigned from my non-executive directorship at Britannia Building
Society at the end of their financial year on 31 December 1998.
Non-executive directors at Britannia Building Society
have no involvement with individual customer's mortgage applications
and that of course applied to me.
Mr Mandelson published on 22 December 1998 in The
Times a letter to me asking for advice about Mr Robinson's
loan (Annex A). I provided advice on 21 January 1999 (Annex
B). Having received complaints concerning Mr Mandelson I began
my inquiries when I took up my post.
