Prohibit the export of live farm animals for slaughter or further fattening; and for connected purposes.

BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-
 

Export of live farm animals.     1. - (1) It shall be an offfence for any person to export from England or Wales to a destination outside the United Kingdom a live farm animal for slaughter or further fattening.
 
      (2) A person who is guilty of an offence under subsection (1) shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale.
 
      (3) In this Act "farm animal" means an animal kept for the production of food, wool, skin or fur or for the purpose of its use in the farming of land.
 
Short title and commencement.     2. - (1) This Act may be cited as the Export of Farm Animals Act 2000.
 
      (2) This Act extends to England and Wales only.
 
      (3) This Act shall come into force at the end of the period of 2 years beginning with the day on which it is passed.
