Extend the duties of fire authorities in respect of fire prevention.

BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-
 

Extension of duties of fire authorities.     1. In section 1 of the Fire Services Act 1947 (provision of fire services), in subsection (1), after paragraph (f) insert-
 
 
    "(g) efficient arrangements for providing education, information, publicity and encouragement in respect of the steps to be taken to prevent fires in their area and to prevent the death of, or injury to, any person being caused by such a fire."
Short title, commencement and extent.     2. - (1) This Act may be cited as the Fire Prevention Act 2000.
 
      (2) Section 1 comes into force on such day as may be appointed by order made by statutory instrument, and different days may be appointed for different areas.
 
      (3) An order under subsection (2) is to be made-
 
 
    (a) in relation to England, by the Secretary of State; and
 
    (b) in relation to Wales, by the National Assembly for Wales.
      (4) This Act extends to England and Wales only.
