B I L L TO Amend the Zoo Licensing Act 1981 so as to make it unlawful to operate a circus except with the authority of a licence. BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- | |||||||||
Amendment of the Zoo Licensing Act 1981. | 1. - (1) The Zoo Licensing Act 1981 is amended as follows. | ||||||||
(2) In section 1(2) (licensing of zoos by local authorities) the words "otherwise than for the purposes of a circus (as so defined)" are omitted. | |||||||||
(3) In section 21 (interpretation) the words ""circus" means a place where animals are kept or introduced wholly or mainly for the purpose of performing tricks or manoeuvres at that place;" are omitted. | |||||||||
Short title, commencement and extent. | 2. - (1) This Act may be cited as the Zoo Licensing (Amendment) Act 2000. | ||||||||
(2) This Act shall come into force at the end of the period of two months beginning with the day on which it is passed. | |||||||||
(3) This Act extends to England and Wales only. |
