Make the use of imperial weights and measures no longer subject to proceedings for a criminal offence.
BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:-
Amendment of the Weights and Measures Act 1985.
1. - (1) Section 8 of the Weights and Measures Act 1985 (units of measurement, weights and measures lawful for use of trade) is amended, by inserting after subsection (8) the following new subsection-
"(9) Subsection (4) above shall not apply-
(a) to the use for trade of any unit of measurement listed in Schedule 1A;
(b) to the use for trade or the possession for use for trade of any linear. square, cubic or capacity measure listed in Schedule 1A."
(2) The Schedule (which inserts Schedule 1A into the 1985 Act) has effect.
