B I L L TO Amend the law relating to school admission arrangements for maintained schools to allow admission authorities to give precedence to pupils seeking admission who live within the area of the local education authority; and for connected purposes. BE IT ENACTED by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:- | |||||||||
Amendment of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998. | 1. The School Standards and Framework Act 1998 is amended, by inserting after subsection (1) of section 89 (procedure for determining admission arrangements) the following new subsection- | ||||||||

Short title and extent. | 2. - (1) This Act may be cited as the School Admissions (Amendment) Act 2000. | ||||||||
(2) This Act extends to England and Wales only. |
