A34

Dr. Harris: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions when the A34 north of Oxford will be resurfaced under the initiative announced recently in respect of concrete roads; and what difference the new resources announced in the 10-year plan have made to the forecast timescale. [133579]

Mr. Hill: Our 10-year strategy for transport, "Transport 2010--The Ten Year Plan", has been published and sets out proposals for dealing with road noise, including the provision of quieter surfaces on over 60 per cent. of the network, including all concrete surfaces.

I have asked the Highways Agency to draw up a programme for all such trunk roads for agreement. The A34 north of Oxford will be included in this programme.

A30 (Exeter)

Dr. Harris: To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions how the costs of the resurfacing of the A30 near Exeter recently announced by the Prime Minister will be split between the Highways Agency and the private sector. [133580]

Mr. Hill: I have asked the Chief Executive of the Highways Agency to write to the hon. Member.
