Millennium Dome

Dr. Julian Lewis: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport how many recruits from the New Deal for Young People (a) have worked and (b) are working in the Millennium Dome. [134827]

Mr. Peter Ainsworth: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport when he last met the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to discuss the Dome. [135415]

Janet Anderson [holding answer 30 October 2000]: My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has had no meetings with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland to discuss the Dome.

Mr. Peter Ainsworth: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if he will list the meetings he has attended since September 1999, together with their dates, at which the future use of the Millennium Dome site was discussed, indicating who was in attendance at each meeting. Janet Anderson [holding answer 20 November 2000]: My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State attended meetings on 1 December, 13 December and 15 December 1999, at which the future use of the Millennium Dome was discussed.

These meetings were attended by Lord Falconer, Minister of State at the Cabinet Office and Shareholder of the New Millennium Experience Company, Andrew Smith, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, and Hilary Armstrong, Minister for Local Government and the Regions. Officials from the Competition Team, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR), English Partnerships (EP), the New Millennium Experience Company (NMEC), and the Millennium Commission (MC) were also present.

New Millennium Experience Company

Sports Injuries

Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949

Mr. Clifton-Brown: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if he will amend the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949 to ensure that inquiry officers are prevented from entering private property unless they have reasonable grounds for suspecting that television is being watched illegally. [141095]

Janet Anderson: TV Licensing's inquiry officers have no authority to enter any premises without the owner's or occupier's consent, unless authorised to do so by a search warrant issued by a justice of the peace in England, Wales or Northern Ireland or, in Scotland, a sheriff. Under section 15(1) of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949 (as amended), a justice of the peace or a sheriff may issue a warrant if satisfied by information on oath that there is reasonable ground for suspecting that an offence under the Act has been or is being committed, and that evidence of the commission of the offence is to be found on the premises specified. The Government consider that this provides adequate safeguards and therefore have no plans to amend the 1949 Act.

Athletes (Lottery Funding)

Mr. Trickett: To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what age limitations apply to athletes seeking lottery funding. [141202]
