THE PUBLIC ACCOUNTS COMMISSION
Tenth Report
Introduction
1. This is the Tenth Report
made to the House of Commons since the establishment of the Public
Accounts Commission under the National Audit Act 1983. The Report
describes the work of the Commission in the exercise of its functions
since its last Report in July 1998[1].
2. The Commission has a membership of nine. Two of
the membersthe Leader of the House of Commons and the Chairman
of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC)are ex officio
members. The reminder are appointed by the House of Commons.
3. The current membership of the Commission was approved
by the House of Commons on 6 June 1997. Mrs Margaret Beckett replaced
Ann Taylor as a member of the Commission on her appointment as
Leader of the House in July 1998. Mr Geoffrey Clifton-Brown resigned
from the Commission in July 1999 on his appointment as an Opposition
Whip. His successor has not yet been appointed.
4. The current membership of the Commission is as

The Rt Hon Robert Sheldon has been Chairman of the
Commission since June 1997.
5. The Secretary of the Commission is Jacqy Sharpe,
one of the Principal Clerks, Select Committees, to whom all official
correspondence should be addressed.[2]
Meetings and Parliamentary Questions
6. The Commission held 4 meetings during the period
covered by this Report: on 30 June and 15 December 1998 and 6
July and 2 December 1999.
7. Some 21 Parliamentary Questions
were tabled to the Chairman of the Public Accounts Commission
between 1 July 1998 and 30 June 2000, 12 of which were answered
orally.
