Select Committee on Administration Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence

APPENDIX 22

Letter to James Gray MP from Mr P A Smith

I enclose a letter sent to me by my Shay supplier [not printed]. I do not think we can stand anymore cash rises.

While I have this chance to write to you, I would like to say that on this dairy farm our turnover on milk has fallen by £18,000 during the last two years. I think the outlook is bleak.

In my 50 years of farming it is my opinion that a healthy monthly milk cheque is the basis for a contented industry. It was the EU who smashed the Milk Marketing Board and that bird will come home to roost before long.
