Select Committee on Culture, Media and Sport Minutes of Evidence

LETTER FROM THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR CULTURE, MEDIA AND SPORT TO THE CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE

Thank you for your letter of 18 January inviting me to give oral evidence to your current inquiry and requesting copies of notes of Monitoring Committee meetings.

I have carefully considered your request that I make available the minutes of the meetings of the Stadium Monitoring Committee. While I wish to be as helpful as possible to the Committee, representatives ofnon-governmental organisations took part in those meetings on the understanding that discussions were in confidence. Some of the subject matter discussed also covered commercial plans of particular parties. I therefore do not feel that I can agree to your request on this occasion.

I should be happy to give oral evidence to the Committee. Given that Kate and I have worked so closely on the National Stadium I shoud like to suggest that we attend a Committee session together. Unfortunately, given Cabinet commitments, it would not be feasible for me to attend the session at which Kate is currently due to give evidence on 27 January. Would it be possible, for Kate and I therefore to attend a session on 1 February.
