APPENDIX 11
Letter from the Secretary to the English
National Stadium Trust
I refer to your fax of 13 January and our subsequent
telephone conversation.
The fax highlights two specific areas of importance,
one the role of the Trust as referred to by Sport England and
second, the point put forward by UK Athletics as to whether the
income of the Trust might be employed to assist with the financing
of an athletics venue. In our telephone conversation you detailed
that the second issue was the main area of concern and the one
on which you required evidence. During our telephone conversation
it was decided that the Wembley National Stadium Company would
be able to answer any questions that the Committee members may
have.
Nevertheless, I consider that it may be beneficial
to point out that at the present time, the income of the Trust
is minimal and that it may be 10 years until this will increase
sufficiently to assist in such a project. It must also be acknowledged
that the objects of the Trust may prevent it from assisting in
any such project. The principal objects of the Trust are the advancement
of education of children and young persons, at schools, universities
and other educational and training establishments, by organising
and providing facilities, coaching and training for football ("the
primary element") and other sports ("the secondary element");
and second the organisation or provision of facilities for the
recreation and benefit in the interests of social welfare of the
disadvantaged, through youth, age, infirmity, disablement, poverty
or social and economic circumstances.
I hope this letter clarifies the current situation
but if you or the members of the Committee have any further queries
please do not hesitate to contact me.
