Further Letter to the Chairman of the
Committee from the Secretary of State for Culture, Media And Sport
David Faber has tabled a written question seeking
the basis of the description of the platform as "... a
10 acre concrete structure ..." which appears in a press
notice issued by my Department and which also appears in paragraph
eight of the Government's response to the Select Committee report.
This is an unfortunate error, picked up from descriptions given
at earlier meetings; the reference should have been to a size
of about 5 acres. However, my view remains that the proposed platform
represents poor value for money, and an inappropriate solution
to the need for an international athletics facility.
I am copying this letter to David Faber for information.
