Select Committee on Deregulation First Report

Letter from the Clerk of the Committee to the Association of Chief Police Officers of England, Wales and Northern Ireland

Following consultation by the Home Office, a draft Order was laid in the Houses of Parliament on 17 January 2000. The Committee notes that the Association responded to the Home Office

Consultation document and has referred to points made by the Association in the Explanatory Document.

The Committee, in considering the Order, wishes to take further written evidence on the question of the financial impact on police forces. The Association expressed the view that they would experience unquantifiable resource implications for policing areas at previously quiet periods. It would help the Committee in its deliberations if the Association could give some indication of additional resources and costs necessitated.

The Committee is constrained by the timetable for consideration of the Deregulation (Sunday Dancing and Licensing) Order and so must request a reply by Wednesday 9 February. I apologise for the short notice and trust that you are able to respond.
