Select Committee on Deregulation First Report

Letter from the Clerk of the Committee to the Local Government Association

The Deregulation Committee is currently considering the above draft Order and invites written evidence from the Local Government Association.

As you are aware, the Committee must consider whether a proposal for a draft Order satisfies nine criteria, one of which is the potential financial impact.

I note that in your submission to the Home Office, you have referred to the financial benefit to proprietors and the opportunity for local authorities to cover additional costs by varying the charges for public entertainment licenses.

However the Committee is concerned that ensuring necessary protection for residents may require additional resources for Environmental Services to combat noise nuisance.

The Committee would be most grateful if the Association could comment on this concern; detailed quantification of costs is not expected within the time scale of the enquiry.
