Letter from the Football League

WORK PERMIT ARRANGEMENTS—1998-99 SEASON

I acknowledge reciept of your recent letter in respect of the above, enclosing a copy of the new criteria for issuing work permits for the 1998-99 season.

I have to advise you that the Football League strongly object to the wording of the first paragraph under the heading of "Introduction" which reads "Normally this would be seen as the Premier League and Nationwide Division One in England and Wales and the Premier League in Scotland.".

I have already had correspondence with you on this subject (copy enclosed) when you initially proposed that work permits should not be issued to Football League Division Two and Three clubs and I must emphasise our objections in the strongest possible terms to anything which seeks to discriminate against a particular section of our clubs.

I look forward to receiving a revised document at your earliest convenience to enable me to circulate the information to all our clubs.
