Rugby League—2000

CRITERIA FOR PLAYERS

FIRST TIME PLAYERS

Players coming into the UK from Australia

  Players coming to the UK from Australia are required to have achieved either of the following:

    Full internationals—At least one full appearance since 1 July 1998;

    National League—At least 16 appearances in the season prior to the application;

    State of Origin—At least one appearance in the season prior to the application.

Players coming to the UK from New Zealand

  Players coming to the UK from New Zealand are required to have achieved either of the following:

    Full Internationals—At least one full appearance since 1 July 1998;

    District Level—At least one full appearance since 1 July 1998.

Other Rugby League players outside the UK/EEA

  Players must have played for a country which took part in the 1995 World Cup finals and have played, since July 1998, in approximately 75 per cent of their country's games. The salary package will also be used as an indicator of the player's standard.

Injuries

  Injuries will be taken into account if the club can provide independent medical evidence, from the time of the injury, stipulating the injury sustained and for what period of games the player missed.

Rugby Union players

  Players must have played for a country which takes part in the 1999 World Cup in the United Kingdom and have made at least one international appearance since 1 July 1998. The player's salary package will be looked at as an indicator of the standard.

RENEWAL APPLICATIONS

Players returning to the UK

  Where a player is seeking to return for another season, he must have played in approximately 75 per cent of first team games during the previous season. Medical evidence will be required to confirm the period and the nature of any injuries to the player during the season.

LENGTH OF ISSUE

  Permits are issued for one season at a time—until 31 December.

SALARY

  The RFL may be asked to state whether the salary package is commensurate with the standard of player.

COACHES

Head Coach

  All head coaches must be established for at least one full season at either of the following levels within the past three years:

    National team coach (senior only);

    Australian state coaches (mainly New South Wales and Queensland);

    Australian National League.

  Evidence to show the level of coaching they have attained must be supplied in lieu of a full resident search.

ASSISTANT COACH

  We will only consider issuing work permits for assistant coaches if the individual has gained two years coaching experience at the equivalent of a senior coach in this country together with proof of an extensive resident labour search. The club is expected to provide all the relevant evidence.

FITNESS CONDITIONERS

  We will only consider issuing work permits for fitness conditioners who hold the required relevant qualifications with at least two years experience at a professional level in a comparable sport together with proof of an extensive resident labour search. The club is expected to provide all the relevant evidence.
