Speedway Criteria 1999

  The Department issues work permits to established international riders of the highest standard whose employment will not displace resident/European Economic Area riders and who will make a significant contribution to the development of the sport.

FIRST TIME APPLICATIONS

  To qualify for a work permit for the first time the overseas rider must be:

USAThe top rider excluding those already in the UK.
AustraliaThe top three riders excluding those already in the UK.
New ZealandThe top rider excluding those already in the UK.
Czech Republic The top two riders excluding those already in the UK.
PolandThe top two riders excluding those already in the UK.
OthersThe National Champion of their country.


  In order to establish the top riders in the above countries, it is expected that each Governing Body for Speedway in the above countries will nominate their best rider/riders in that country prior to the commencement of the season. Each country will supply documentary evidence which will clearly demonstrate that the rider or riders chosen are currently the best speedway riders in that country on the basis of their international record within the previous 12 months. The BSPA will supply Overseas Labour Service (OLS) within his information which is kept in the Speedway file.

RENEWAL APPLICATIONS

Riders returning to the UK for a second season

  All new riders will be expected to have gained an average of five (Elite League) and six and-a half (Premier league) in their first year. BSPA will supply OLS with a list each year detailing each players averages.

Subsequent applications

  Where a rider is returning for a subsequent season (third season onwards), the rider, will be expected to have gained an average of five (Elite League) and eight (Premier League) points per meet in the previous season should they wish to gain further permits.

CONTRACTS

Contract

  A full copy of a signed contract by both parties must be supplied with each application.

Length of Issue

  The season runs from March to October and the length of issue will be stipulated on the contract.

Salary

  The Minimum salary required is £155 per week.

CONSULTATION

  At the beginning of each season, the Governing Body, BSPA, will submit a list to OLS detailing all riders and their standing who will meet our criteria. No consultation will be necessary if the rider appears on the list.
