Select Committee on Education and Employment Fourth Special Report

FOURTH SPECIAL REPORT

The Education and Employment Committee has agreed to the following Special Report:—

GOVERNMENT'S RESPONSE TO THE THIRD REPORT OF THE EDUCATION AND EMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE, SESSION 1999-2000

THE DRAFT PART-TIME EMPLOYEES (PREVENTION OF LESS FAVOURABLE TREATMENT) REGULATIONS 2000

1. The Education and Employment Committee reported to the House on the Draft Parttime Employees (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2000 in its Third Report of Session 1999-2000, published on 22 March 2000 as HC 297. The Government's response to that Report was received on the afternoon of 18 May 2000. It is reproduced as an Annex to this Special Report.

2. Although the Government by convention has two months in which to respond to select committee reports, it is a matter for regret that on this occasion the Government did not provide us with a response before the draft Parttime Workers (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2000 were considered by the Third Standing Committee on Delegated Legislation on the morning of 18 May.
