Notes

1.  The Treasury has the aim to "raise the rate of sustainable growth. . ."

2. Although sustainable development or environmental integration are not specifically included in the aims and objectives of each department, the Treasury, Customs and Excise and Inland Revenue share a performance target to "continue to develop the tax system so that it underpins the strategy on sustainable development and delivers environmental objectives"

3. The aim of Customs and Excise is to "provide a world class tax and customs service in accordance with government objectives". This could, therefore include the promotion of sustainable development, but the aim is too unspecific as to relate directly to environmental protection.

4. Under the description of the objective to help people into work, the White Paper states that it is working to see people move into "sustainable jobs".

5. The interim PSA for Department of Social Security states that in carrying out its objectives to pensions policy, it will "strike a fair and clear balance between generations".
