Select Committee on Environment, Transport and Regional Affairs Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence

Memorandum by East Hampshire District Council (TF 68)

The Council is aware of the needs of the advice in Circular 22/91. The Local Plan recognises the planning considerations relating to travelling showpeople but does not allocate a specific site.

As mentioned in Mrs Montgomery's submission note (TF 23) the needs of local travelling showpeople are being examined and although temporary permissions have been granted, the search to provide a suitable site for permanent quarters is still being pursued. In view of the urgency a site may have to be found outside the local plan process.

With regard to paragraph 15 of Circular 22/91 the Council does not own any suitable sites.
