THE PRICE
OF FUEL
Eighty-five per cent of the price of diesel
is taxation, the Government had fuel duty revenues of £21.6
billion in 1998-99 and projects £22.5 billion in 1999-2000,
and £23.5 billion in 2000-01.

The industry commissioned research from the Centre for Economics
and Business Research Ltd to examine the economic consequences
of the widening gap between UK and European duty rates. The following
