Select Committee on Environment, Transport and Regional Affairs Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence

Appendix

  1.  Further to my submission to the enquiry, I would like to raise the subject of Driver Stress as a major concern.

  2.  The Essex Flour & Grain Company has supplied Foodstuff to London since 1853, and attached 1910 extract from price list details our area of operations.

  3.  We have six and sometimes seven integral vans on the road every day with an average of 20 deliveries into an area where little if any provision has been made for commercial deliveries which causes serious Driver Stress.

  4.  Our deliveries are usually from 25 kilos to 700 kilos and we have already detailed the problems of St Giles High Street in previous submissions but attach letter to London Parking Director, dated 1995.

  5.  Every Driver could easily receive a ticket every other delivery and this was confirmed by Mr G John FTA Traffic Officer and our DTI Report attached to original submission where DTI Consultant concluded "subject to Mafioso Style Protection Racket", a report ignored by the DTI.

  6.  Local Authorities control the uses of properties but ignore this information when allocating Unloading Bays.

  7.  If Drivers had to pay for Parking Penalties the Company would cease Trading being without Drivers.
