Examination of Witnesses (Questions 317
- 319)
TUESDAY 6 JUNE 2000
MR MIKE
WALKER, DR
CHRIS SPRAY
AND MR
PAUL WOODCOCK
Chairman
317. Can I welcome you to the Committee, and
could I ask you to identify yourselves.
(Mr Walker) May I start with an apology.
Pamela Taylor, who is Chief Executive of Water UK, has unfortunately
had to withdraw from this morning's evidence session. I am Mike
Walker, Policy Development Adviser with Water UK. On my left I
have Dr Chris Spray, who is Environmental Director of Northumbrian
Water. On my right is Paul Woodcock, who is Head of Water Quality
and Environmental Regulation at Anglian Water.
Mr Olner
318. Can I ask what role you have played in
the Biodiversity Action Plan process and what you think are its
main strengths and weaknesses?
(Mr Walker) If I may explain what has happened at
the national level, Water UK and the water industry are national
champions for the otter as a species. We have spent over £2
million over three years.
319. That is good publicity for you.
(Mr Walker) It makes very good publicity.
