APPENDIX 2
Letter from the Secretary of State, Foreign
and Commonwealth Office to the Chairman regarding oral evidence
Thank you for your letter of 7 February inviting
me to give oral evidence to the committees on export control policy
in respect of the Pakistan and Zimbabwe, as well as any points
arising from the Government's response to the committees' report.
Unfortunately, other commitments mean that it
will be difficult for me to attend a further evidence session
in the near future. I have asked Mr Hain to give evidence on the
Foreign office's behalf.
In line with your suggested timing, we will
aim to respond formally to the committees' report by the end of
March. I have asked Mr. Hain's office to be in touch with the
Committee Clerk nearer the time to discuss an evidence session
after Easter.
