Select Committee on Foreign Affairs Minutes of Evidence

Supplementary memorandum submitted by Foreign and Commonwealth Office

APPLICATIONS AND RECRUITMENT FOR 1999 AND 2000

As requested, I enclose the table giving the breakdown of applications and recruitment for the Policy Entry competition (formerly known as Fast Stream) for 1999, and provisional figures for 2000. Some of our successful candidates are still considering our offer and those who have accepted are undergoing pre-appointment checks. We therefore do not have the definitive gender and ethnicity figures. What I can say is that we have offered two positions to candidates from minority ethnic groups (8 per cent) and 14 to women (56 per cent). None of our successful candidates has declared him- or herself disabled.

FCO Staff numbers, applications and recruitment, policy entry ("fast stream", ie grades DS7D/8).
