Select Committee on Foreign Affairs Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence

APPENDIX 5

Letter from the Foreign Secretary about his written reply to MS Dari Taylor's written question on various issues concerning Gibraltar in the European Union.

I would like to draw your attention to my written reply of 19 April to Ms Dari Taylor MP's written question on various issues concerning Gibraltar in the European Union[2].

My answer reported that, following extensive consultation with the Government of Gibraltar and with their support, and with the encouragement of our EU partners, Her Majesty's Government had successfully concluded discussions with the Government of Spain to resolve a number of Gibraltar-related questions within the EU. As you know, these discussions have been continuing for several months. My written answer, and the exchange of correspondence and arrangements which have been placed in the Library of the House, provide fuller detail on the matters covered by these discussions (Gibraltar authorities, Gibraltar ID cards, police co-operation and the UK's Schengen application). I enclose a copy of all the documentation placed in the Library, together with my written reply[3], for the Committee's ease of reference.

I consider this a very good outcome, and I hope that you will welcome it.
