Select Committee on Home Affairs Minutes of Evidence

Examination of Witnesses (Questions 218 - 219)

WEDNESDAY 18 OCTOBER 2000

SIR DAVID RAMSBOTHAM, MR COLIN ALLEN AND MR GEOFFREY HUGHES

Chairman

  218. We will go over the various bits. There was a delay of six months between you finishing the report and it actually getting published. Can you just take us through what happens when you finish?
(Sir David Ramsbotham) I can tell you what happened as far as we were concerned. When the inspection was finished on 21st January Mr Colin Allen, my deputy chief inspector, who was there at that time, and Mr Geoffrey Hughes, who was the team leader, debriefed the Governor and Senior Management Team of the prison on what we had found, and that debrief, which we do at every inspection, is attended by the Area Manager and the Chairman of the Board of Visitors.
