APPENDIX 38
Note by Mr Frank Cranmer, Principal Clerk
Select Committees to the Clerk of the Committees, Professor Roger
Perry (TB 62)
The New Scientist story on 16 May 1998
reported me correctly when it wrote: "Frank Cranmer, Clerk
to the [Environment] Committee at that time, says that its Members
knew Perry had done research for the tobacco industry. He cannot
recall Perry mentioning that he had any deeper relationship with
Philip Morris". Of course, he may possibly have mentioned
the fact that he had a general retainer from Philip Morris to
the then Chairman, Sir Hugh Rossi MP but he certainly did not
mention it to me.
