Select Committee on International Development Tenth Report

BACKGROUND

We had, in advance of the Seattle Ministerial Meeting, announced an inquiry into the implications of the new Round for developing countries. Following the failure to agree an agenda for a new Round, we decided to revise our terms of reference to look at the lessons to be learned from the failed negotiations. In preparing our report, we have been aware of other recent inquiries into the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and have sought not to duplicate needlessly discussions within these reports. We would refer in particular to the Report published by the House of Lords' Select Committee on the European Union in June 2000,[1] and the Reports published by the Agriculture and Environmental Audit Select Committees of this House.
