Select Committee on Public Accounts Minutes of Evidence

APPENDIX 1

LETTER TO THE COMMITTEE ASSISTANT FROM THE PERMANENT SECRETARY, LORD CHANCELLOR'S DEPARTMENT, TOGETHER WITH A MEMORANDUM (PAC 1999-2000/171)

When we appeared before the Committee on 17 April, Nick Smedley and I promised further information. I enclose a Supplementary Memorandum on three points.

There was a fourth point. At paragraph 10 (page 8) of the draft transcript I promised to provide information on the Public Trust Office's Key Performance Indicators to the Chairman. Having considered the documentation that was made available to the Committee for the hearing, I note that the Comptroller and Auditor General had provided the Committee with a note that the National Audit Office had produced and agreed with the Lord Chancellor's Department on the payment made to the former Chief Executive on her departure. Information on the payment, including details of bonus payments made is most clearly set out in that agreed document. In particular, in answer to the Chairman's question, page two sets out what each of the Public Trust Officer's Key Performance Indicators were and page three sets out the awards made against those Key Performance Indicators and other scheme elements. If, on considering this note further, the Committee wishes to receive more information I would be happy to provide it.
