Draft Pneumoconiosis etc. (Workers' Compensation) (Payment of Claims) (Amendment) Regulations 2000

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions (Ms Beverley Hughes): I beg to move,

    That the Committee has considered the draft Pneumoconiosis etc. (Workers' Compensation) (Payment of Claims) (Amendment) Regulations 2000.

The regulations are being made under the Pneumoconiosis etc. (Workers' Compensation) Act 1979. Their purpose is to increase by 2.5 per cent. the amount of compensation paid under the Act to those who first satisfy all the conditions of entitlement on or after 1 June 2000.

I am grateful to Opposition Members and to my hon. Friends who, although I am prepared to speak longer, have indicated that they are prepared to accept the motion.
