HUNTING WITH DOGS: PROHIBITION |

PROHIBITION |
| Offences |
| 1. A person commits an offence if he hunts a wild mammal with a dog. |
| 2. A person commits an offence if he knowingly permits land which belongs to him (within the meaning of paragraph 22) to be entered or used in the course of the commission of an offence under paragraph 1. |
| 3. A person commits an offence if he knowingly permits a dog which belongs to him (within the meaning of paragraph 23) to be used in the course of the commission of an offence under paragraph 1. |
| 4. - (1) A person commits an offence if he- |
|
(a) acts as an official at a hare coursing event, or |
|
(b) knowingly permits land which belongs to him (within the meaning of paragraph 22) to be used for the purposes of a hare coursing event. |
|
(2) The following persons commit an offence if a dog participates in a hare coursing event- |
|
(a) any person who enters the dog for the event, |
|
(b) any person who knowingly permits the dog to be entered, and |
|
(c) any person who controls or handles the dog in the course of or for the purposes of the event. |
|
(3) A "hare coursing event" is a competition in which dogs are assessed as to speed or skill in hunting hares. |
| Penalties |
| 5. A person guilty of an offence under paragraph 1, 2, 3 or 4 shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale. |
| Bodies corporate |
| 6. - (1) This paragraph applies where an offence under paragraph 2, 3 or 4 is committed by a body corporate. |
|
(2) If the offence is proved to have been committed with the consent or connivance of an officer of the body corporate he shall be guilty of the offence (as well as the body corporate). |
|
(3) In sub-paragraph (2) "officer" includes- |
|
(a) a director, manager or secretary, |
|
(b) a person purporting to act as a director, manager or secretary, and |
|
(c) a member of a body corporate the affairs of which are managed by its members. |
