Fines (Greater Manchester)

Mr. Bennett: To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department for the last 12 month period for which figures are available, what the total value was of fines imposed by each magistrates court in Greater Manchester; what percentage was collected in each case; and how much each court has written off as uncollectable. 1. New amount owed includes fines, fee orders, costs orders, compensation and confiscation orders, imposed either by magistrates, or by Crown court judges and transferred to magistrates courts for enforcement

2. Debt analysis data are collected centrally from Magistrates Courts Committee areas. They do not distinguish between individual courts in the area. North and West Manchester MCC is responsible for administration in Bury, Wigan, Rochdale, Middleton, Leigh, Salford and Bolton magistrates courts.

3. Amounts paid and written off may relate to amounts imposed before the current 12 month period.

4. The net amount written off includes amounts written back.
