  Chairman: Colleagues, can I welcome you to this morning's session of the Committee. Welcome to our first set of witnesses. We appreciate your cooperation with our inquiry and the written evidence that you have sent us. I understand there is one declaration of interest this morning.

  John Austin: We will be receiving evidence from the Community Practitioners' and Health Visitors' Association which is a part of the MSF Trade Union and I am declaring that I am a member of the MSF Trade Union.

  438. If there are no more declarations, could I ask each of our witnesses to briefly introduce themselves to the Committee?

  (Dr Heath) I am Dr Iona Heath. I am a general practitioner in Kentish Town in London. I am representing the Royal College of GPs, where I am a member of the Council and the Health Inequalities Task Group.
  (Dr Archard) I am Dr Graham Archard. I am a GP from Christchurch in Dorset and also a member of the Council of the College of GPs.
  (Professor Drinkwater) I am Professor Chris Drinkwater. I am an academic general practitioner. I am here representing the NHS Alliance and I am public health lead for the NHS Alliance.

  439. Could you say a little bit about the Alliance?
  (Professor Drinkwater) The NHS Alliance is basically a group which was established four years ago. It represents general practitioners and primary health care professionals and primary care groups and primary care trusts. It essentially represents their interests. It is very much based on an interprofessional model of primary health care and we have representatives of the CPHVA and the RCN on our executive group.
  (Dr Crowley) I am Philip Crowley, representing the NHS Alliance. I have been developing for the last six years a model of community development and primary care, which we will be discussing today.
  (Ms Jackson) I am Pat Jackson from the Community Practitioners' and Health Visitors' Association and I am a professional officer for school health and public health.
  (Ms Amadi) I am Obi Amadi from the Community Practitioners' and Health Visitors' Association. I am lead professional officer and have a background in health visiting.
