Third supplementary memorandum submitted
by the Department for International Development
RESPONSE ON THE ETHICAL TRADING INITIATIVE
DFID received the following information from
David Steele, the ETI information officer, about the relationship
of HIV/AIDS to ETI members' practice when vetting overseas suppliers.
"HIV/AIDS issues have been encountered
by a number of our company members and ETI future policy in this
respect is under discussion. Currently the HIV/AIDS policy of
suppliers could be considered under the non-discrimination and
health and safety sections of the ETI Base Code (health and safety
in terms of promoting proactive HIV/AIDS education programmes,
not exclusion of those HIV+)."
