Select Committee on International Development Minutes of Evidence

Memorandum submitted by Mr John Abbott, Director-General, National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS)

Further to the contributions submitted by NCIS to date, I noted when I gave evidence several members of the committee were particularly interested in the level of disclosures by accountants and solicitors, especially in comparison with some other financial services sectors.

NCIS has recently produced some additional comparative tables on this issue, and I enclose copies for the committee's benefit. You will note that there are some "peaks" in disclosure for both professions—from our records it appears that these peaks occurred shortly after wider publicity of the risks of money laundering. If you or any committee member should have any questions in relation to this data, please do not hesitate to contact me.
