Select Committee on Northern Ireland Affairs Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence

APPENDIX 16

Memorandum submitted by the Reverend Ian R K Paisley, MP, MEP, MLA, on behalf of the Democratic Unionist Party

You wrote to the General Secretary of my Party on 13th October concerning your inquiry into the Parades Commission.

I would like to advise you of the following.

During the course of the Northern Ireland Forum for Political Dialogue they reported on the parades issue and I enclose for your attention a copy of the full report[225] and the submission of evidence which details quite clearly the views of the Committee which was predominantly Unionist in make-up which accurately reflects the views pertaining to parades and the Parades Commission.

Nothing really has changed with regard to these views as outlined then. I would add however, that I feel the Parades Commission has simply increased the problems and failed to address the problems that it was supposed to resolve.

I do hope you will be able to take on board these points as outlined in the various reports which I have forwarded to you and that you will be able to ensure that this body is removed from operation in Northern Ireland.
