APPENDIX 7
Memorandum submitted by L Cubitt &
Co, Solicitors
I thank you for your letter of 23 January in
respect of Legal Aid Proposals for Northern Ireland. In common
with the rest of the UK Northern Ireland has the "benefit"
of a Legal Aid System.
I am strongly of the view that all Legal Aid
should be abolished. This is quite clearly contrary to the European
view of Legal Aid but merely because a majority are in favour
of a course of action does not necessarily mean it is correct.
The best illustration I can make with regard to this is that the
majority of people in Germany in 1933, 1934 and 1935 did not dissent
and indeed appeared to favour Hitler as their ruler.
